RCA Case Study
One of the biggest investors in modern communications networks and technologies, as trading companies of Hutchison Whampoa, both WHAM and 3 Mobile collaborated with students of the Royal College of Art on an exciting brief to take a bold look at the mobile phone world.
Already having beaten the rest of the mobile market, including Apple, with a phone that made it easy and intuitive to make internet calls/ chat on mobile, we were striving to take our first social networking device to a truly radical level. We wanted to offer customers a revolutionary community experience on mobile, with a handset design that conveyed the new, and the simplicity of the experience.
Aiming to take elements, if not the whole design, from the final results of the student work into our next product, we were offering them the opportunity to influence a major consumer product breakthrough.
The project was an unqualified success. With huge energy and commitment to exceeding the brief, there freshness and opportunism in equal measure. Lots of good ideas and a few great ones, one really brilliant. Competitive teamwork ensured a high standard across the board with animated and original presentations.
