The World Cup is in full swing and WHAM has launched a new digital experience for Peroni Nastro Azzurro entitled “Il Bel Gioco” or, for those who prefer English, The Beautiful Game.

Developed with Peroni’s lead global agency, The Bank, and global pr firm, Gabrielle Shaw Communications, Il Bel Gioco is online for the five weeks of the World Cup. The site features interviews, blog entries, podcasts and images from Peroni’s global ambassadors: 2006 football champion Fabio Grosso; Michelin star chef, Giorgio Locatelli, celebrity fashion designer, Antoni Berardi and Italian designer Matteo Alessi. Other guest contributors include fashion icon, Elio Fiorucci and Puma Italia’s managing director, Andrea Rogg.

You can find Il Bel Gioco on the main web site, on Facebook and on Twitter.

WHAM has created a new set of icons for Three for use on handsets and mobiles. We’ve also created a small, modest little web site to show them off and tell the story behind their creation. In addition to being able to see the icons on the site, Three is also offering an earlier version of the icons to anyone under a creative commons license. These will be available later in the month.

We’ve set up a new tumblr to bookmark digital stuff  that inspires us. It’s mostly been set up so that we can keep track of what we like, but we’d love you to visit it and follow us if you feel like it.

The WHAM Agency works closely with telecommunications giant, Three, around the world in areas as diverse as brand, environments and digital. Part of our remit is to bring the operating businesses together to share information and learnings, and where possible, to work together on joint projects. In London last week we ran the Three Digital Forum, which brought together UX experts from across the business. We worked on country updates, digital workshops, and, of course, we hosted a sedate dinner near Hutchison Whampoa’s European HQ in Battersea. As everyone knows, this is where the real business of discussing how we work together occurs.

FloatItsWHAM’s Darren Edwards spoke yesterday at the Mobile User Experience 09 conference in London. In the opening presentation of the conference, Darren spoke on the subject of “Who Controls The User Experience” when developing mobile sites and applications. Along the way he managed to squeeze in some lessons learnt when developing products and concepts while heading up 3 Australia’s UX team in the early days of 3G, as well as more recent projects for Indian telco, Aircel, and SABMiller’s Grolsch (see The Mark).

WW_B18_RainOrShineWhile the rains in Delhi poured last week, dropping some 50% of the city’s annual rainfall in a single night, the WHAM team were busy working on all manner of things for our client, Aircel. Amongst the activity was brand strategy work, a full agency work review, and the presentation to the senior management team of some TOP SECRET digital work we’ve been beavering away at for some months.

Stockholm Savvy

WW_B17_Stockholm_SavvyWHAM’s digital bods have been spending a fair bit of time in Stockholm working with one of our tech partners on an exciting new social networking product for global brand (can’t name them yet!). While there we’ve been bathed in unseasonale sunlight, become obsessed with salty fish, and done some intense whiteboarding sessions (hats off to Beetlebug’s essential whiteboarding software for iPhone). We’re on track to meet what is a tight deadline with the new site due to launch in Eastern Europe first, before being rolled out around the globe.

A New, New Thing

WW_B11_NewNewThingWHAM is back from a whirlwind visit to India where we are working on all manner of projects, including a new digital project looking at web and mobile.

Observation: India has lots of rural areas which is where the next 500 million or so customers are waiting for the joy of a mobile device. But there are challenges. First up there’s the double whammy of illiteracy and regional languages. Then you have the notion of introducing services to people who have not seen the web before. So it’s not replacing something else that is already known, like the web on a PC. It’s a new, new thing. Despite this, it’s exciting and the most revolutionary thing we saw was in the area of voice. Yep, talk. Won’t say anymore, but it’s got our thinking caps buzzing (or is that, spinning?). Oh, and go CSK!
