Charity is the new rock and roll

Sound & Vision is an exclusive fund raising event, hosted by Cancer Research UK each year to celebrate music, the people who make it and the imagery it inspires. With the support of Patrons Sir George Martin and Whispering Bob Harris, and the infamous Abbey Road Studios as a venue, this is an evening steeped in musical history.

WHAM was invited to create an online presence back in 2007, helping to inform event guests of the music line-up, auction items available for purchase, and to attract potential sponsors. We have continued our close work with Cancer Research UK each year since. Now in its 7th year, Sound & Vision is drawing increased media coverage and unwavering support from leading musicians.

Web presence played an increasingly pivotal role for Sound & Vision, and in 2009 the ambition was to further raise the event’s profile, extending the reach of the event beyond those attending.

Our inspiration? The powerful London underground music scene, responsible for the rise of many high profile musicians. The concept was a perfect fit for the artists involved in the 2011 event, with a  wide appeal. This new visual identity was rolled out across their website, Facebook and Twitter accounts. And, for some weeks leading up to the event, featured on eBay.

Including videos of artists involved, and an area featuring social media activity, the site was extremely successful. The total number of visits increased by 32% on the previous year, with visitors spending an average of three times longer to explore.

Sound & Vision’s back catalogue provided inspiration.

The Sound & Vision eBay auction offered an opportunity for those unable to attend the live event to win their own piece of music history. Whilst live, it was prominently featured on the website to help direct traffic and increase bids.

WHAM is extremely proud of our involvement in this project; it is a privilege to support such a fantastic cause. A few members of the team have even been lucky enough to attend the event, with the chance to bid for a few lots! As a company we look forward to our continued contribution towards helping Cancer Research UK in their fight to beat cancer.
